About

Rachel Hornaday

The choices made throughout the art process reflect my observations to the world around me. Playing in the woods as a child, I developed a sensitivity to color, patterns and variation in nature. Making art is a way to recover memory, decoding patterns and colors to explore variation with in me and in nature.

I work in printmaking, sculpture, collage, watercolors and acrylics. Allowing each medium to have its own movement, chance, and variation. Working in multiple mediums creates ample room for exploration and aesthetic variation. Being experimental stems from my interest in both art and science.

“Sensitivity to similarity and difference enables one to perceive new orders of structure, both in the “objective” world of nature and in the mind itself.”–David Bohm

Growing up in the Georgia Mountains using wood burning stoves, pumping up our own spring water, and composting exposed me to exploration and self-sufficiency. These qualities help me explore my environment today. Observing urban and rural environments in search for balance between structure and abstraction.
